Bisinella Developments has proudly sponsored the inaugural Geelong Advertiser Future Geelong Leadership Awards, recognising a variety of community leaders for their outstanding contribution to the region.
The winners were announced at a special ceremony held in Geelong last week, with Michelle Gerdtz taking out the Liveability Leader category and the People’s Choice Award, presented by Bisinella Developments as the major sponsor.
Michelle is the brains behind Read the Play, a Geelong-based mental health and literacy charity which aims to use young peoples’ connection with sport to deliver messages around mental health.
An experienced executive leader, Michelle is also the Chair of AFL Barwon, the governing body of a group of local football and netball teams, dedicated to promoting a thriving sporting community.
SeaRoad Ferries chief executive Matt McDonald won Connectivity Leader for his contribution to community engagement and sustainability.
Hands of Change co-founder and Runway Managing Director Linda Wong was awarded Workplace Leader for expanding social learning opportunities across Victoria.
Director Richard Bisinella said Bisinella Developments was grateful for the opportunity to sponsor the inaugural Geelong Advertiser Future Geelong Leadership Awards.
“Bisinella Developments are huge advocates of supporting the local Geelong community and nurturing the growth of future leaders,” Richard said.
“We are honoured to support the first ever Future Geelong Leadership Awards and I would like to congratulate the Geelong Advertiser on the creation of these awards, particularly Editor Nadja Fleet and General Manager Ramon Rodriguez for their vision.
“We would also like to thank the Committee for Geelong in their support.”
Richard said the awards come at a crucial time for Geelong as the region experiences unprecedented growth
“It is important to acknowledge the different leaders we have in our community who help to drive this growth,” Richard explained.
“I was blown away by the calibre of nominations and was impressed with the participants’ incredible work.
“I would like to congratulate all the winners and look forward to seeing our community thrive under their leadership.”
Launched by the Geelong Advertiser in conjunction with the Committee for Geelong, the awards are an extension of the publication’s Future Geelong series, which recognise individuals in leadership positions who are making a difference to the community.
Other categories included Under 25, Corporate Citizenship Leadership, Cultural and Recreation Leader, and the Frank Costa Award.
The judges selected the winners at an awards ceremony on 3 September 2024 at North Geelong’s 1915 restaurant.
