Residents across Greater Geelong are being encouraged to knock on their neighbour’s door and catch up with their community, ahead of Neighbour Day this weekend.
Held annually on the last Sunday in March, Neighbour Day is Australia’s national celebration of community, which aims to combat loneliness across Australia.
Bisinella Developments Director Richard Bisinella has called on the local community to use Neighbour Day this weekend to reach out and connect with those living next door.
“Whether it’s a chat over the fence, a street BBQ, or a community park catch-up, small moments of connection can make a big difference,” Richard said. “Ahead of Neighbour Day this weekend, we encourage our residents to reach out and get to know the people around them – you could make someone’s day that little bit brighter by saying hello.”
Recent research has revealed that nearly one in three Australians report feeling lonely, with over 15% saying they often or always feel lonely.
Richard said Bisinella has been trying to play its part in reducing this figure by creating environments designed to foster meaningful connections between residents.
“Strong communities play an important role in enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of individuals and families,” Richard said.
“At Bisinella, we are dedicated to creating an environment in every estate we build which supports both existing and future connections with the community. “From welcoming new residents to supporting local events and initiatives, Bisinella as a business also strives to nurture community spirit as we work to deliver safe and happy communities in Geelong.”
The theme for Neighbour Day 2025 is Create, Share, Grow Belonging, encouraging Australians to strengthen community ties and foster a sense of belonging in their own neighbourhood and beyond. This ethos aligns with Bisinella’s longstanding vision of building residential estates that inspire connection and promote inclusion.
“At Bisinella, we recognise the importance of philanthropy in fostering strong community connections,” Richard said.
“Local sports play a vital role in bringing people together, whether through participation, supporting children’s involvement, or simply engaging with the local sporting community.
“These experiences help build relationships, create new friendships, and strengthen social bonds.” Richard said each estate in the region comprises shared spaces and community-focused amenities, to encourage residents to meet, interact and build lasting bonds.
“Pivotal to this feeling is the relationship people have with those living closest to them, which is why this Neighbour Day, we are encouraging everyone to have a chat with their neighbours.” For more than 60 years, Bisinella has shaped communities across the Geelong region and continues to invest in the community infrastructure and lifestyle features that bring people together.
